Ducklings - Reception

Summer 2018

We look forward to our new 'Once upon a time' topic as we enter the summer term. Please take a look at the topic booklet and medium term plan below. Both are subject to change depending on the children and their learning. Visits to the gymnasium at Port Regis, Forest School, the Oceanarium in Bournemouth, as well as a 'Family Challenge Afternoon' are just a few of the things we have to look forward to. Hopefully the sun will finally shine too!

See the rhymes below that we use to help us form our letters correctly - please use the rhymes with any writing you do at home. Thank you.

Ducklings Class is a kind and caring place...

Show and Tell will take place for ALL children every Friday. Please note that it must be one item that is small enough to fit inside your child's drawer (items are getting larger and larger!) This is being used as a reward for children who consistently make good choices throughout the week.

Despite the very warm day, Ducklings gave every activity their all during the 'Mini Olympics' afternoon. Superstars!

After an exciting bus ride we got to explore the Oceanarium and came across a huge variety of animals. A fabulous day was had by all. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers for making this possible today and to our incredible children for their behaviour and manners throughout the day.

Huge congratulations to Summer for winning first prize in the 'International Women in Engineering Day' competition and for Miss Pemberton for inspiring us.

A little bit of sewing...

We made paint brushes using sticks and leaves, explored the walled garden and played with our new friends at Port Regis during our forest school trip. Thank you to everyone involved as enormous fun was had by all.

First we selected our healthy fruits, then we chopped and assembled our faces. Finally we ate!

A huge thank you to the wonderful parents and grandparents who visited us this afternoon for our 'Family Challenge Afternoon.' It was fabulous to see so many families working together and celebrating childrens' work in Learning Journeys.

We celebrated the Royal wedding in style by making an enormous feast, singing, playing 'pin the tail on the corgi' and spending the most wonderful day together.

Lots of fun is being had in the Duckling's shoe shop as we measure and buy new shoes from very willing shopkeepers!

Did you see our photo in the Echo? Don't we look a smart bunch.

Can you build an igloo? What will you use? What works best and why?

We explored the anatomy of real fish to help us understand how they breathe underwater.

This is what one child wrote about the fish...

Can you build a boat that floats to rescue the penguin from our story?

Look at our fabulous penguin fact files...

We made lots of new friends today as we welcomed Port Regis children into Duckling's Class.

Cinderella was so much fun...oh yes it was!

Maths, maths and more maths...😊

We have been solving addition sums in lots of different ways...

We have been embracing our new topic with lots of 'Lost and Found' storymaking, role play and painting.

Autumn 2017

Our topic for the Autumn Term is 'Story, Rhyme and Pantomime.' Please see our topic booklet and medium term plan below although planning is subject to change depending on the children and their interests.

Santa's elves have been very busy...

We welcomed Caroline from Shaftesbury Library today for a story, songs and indoor Christmas treasure hunt. Thank you Caroline.

Thanks so much for joining us in class today to share and celebrate our Learning Journeys. We hope you enjoyed the biscuits we baked earlier in the day and feel as proud as we do of their progress. 🌟

Adding using manipulatives.

We had lots of fun during 'Friendship Week' discussing and sharing our thoughts with each other. Thank you for visiting us this morning to see what we have been up to...

Today we made bread. We had to listen carefully, follow instructions and work as a team. We then ate our bread and wrote about how it tasted. A busy day!
