A few notices before the end of this half term.
On the Tuesday after half term I will be asking the children to independently write about a chosen minibeast in a non-chronological report format. To support your child with this please could you spend some time over half term researching a mini beast to write about.
Some of the features I will be looking for in their writing are:
The children will not allowed to have any notes during this piece of writing so only produce things at home if you think it will be beneficial. Spending some time reading/researching their chosen mini beast will give them a bit more information to add to their writing.
Any Q's let me know!
Our class pets have finally turned into their chrysalis state but may not hatch in time to set them free by the end of half term. I think we recieved a slow bunch of caterpillars which is very disappointing! If this happens over half term, I will post a picture of the butterflies on the website. Ideally, the caterpillars hatch before Friday so we can set them free together - this is what I had hoped but I apologise if this might not be possible :(
After half term I will also start setting a small homework challenge every week. This might be a spelling activity, a phonics game maths worksheets (that links to work that week) or a topic based activity. This is to prepare the children for Year 2 where they will have homework set every week. I hope to see all the children excited to show you all their amazing skills and for you to get the chance to support them further at home.
Any questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask :)
Thank you for your continued support throughout the year, I can't believe it's nearly over!
As you know we are going to Gore Farm on Monday 1st April 2019. Hopefully you all recieved a letter containing all the information required. Please see me if you have not!
On the letter I said wellies would be ideal but after visiting the farm myself yesterday I am changing it to a must.
Lastly, thank you to those who have volunteered to help! I will let you know if you are needed by the end of the week.
Thanks so much
I hope you had a lovely half term break - please find Wren Class MTP below with details of what we will be learning this half term.
I am hoping to book a trip to a farm towards the end of the half term - if you have any recommendations or know of any local farms that offer school visits then please let me know!
A letter will be going out about helpers and dates etc when I have booked somewhere, hopefully within the next few weeks.
Also our class assembly is on the 28th March at 2.45pm in the school hall - a letter will be going out with your child's lines to learn shortly so please keep an eye out in book bags!
Thanks so much for the ongoing support,
Miss Wheatley :)
From now until Easter we will be joined in Wren Class by Mrs Tyler who is a student at Exeter University. She is training to be a teacher and this is her second placement. She will be with us 3 days a week and will be doing a mixture of group work and whole class teaching.
Any questions or queries then please let me know. The children have been very welcoming this week which has been lovely to see :)
Happy New Year everyone and welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break.
This half term our topic in Wren Class will be 'People Who Help Us' we will be looking into different occupations like police officers, doctors and nurses and learning more about what they do.
If you or anyone in your family has had one of these jobs or can share some experiences that relate with our topic and would like to talk to the children about it then please come and talk to me at the end of the day, where we can arrange a time slot for you. These visits from other adults are so valuable to the children as it gives them a real perspective and a chance to ask any questions they may have. The sessions can be as long or short as you would like.
Thank you in advance.
When we return to school we will be learning about Fireworks and Bonfire Night - please can each child bring in a kitchen roll tube to make their own firework.
If anyone can supply more than one so we have some spare that would be great.
Thanks so much
I hope you all had a lovely break.
This week in phonics we have revised the sounds
'oi' 'ow' 'air' and 'ear'
Spelling shed logins... I have now changed all the passwords to motcombe1 without the capital. Your child will have a copy of their new logins in their book bags tomorrow. Please let me know if there is anymore trouble logging in - hopefully I have sorted it!
Thank you for your patience :)
This week in phonics we have practised the sounds :
'oo' - long for 'moon' and short for 'book'
'ar' in star and dark
'or' in fork and short.
Our tricky words have been her, you, was, my, all - these are the ones that you can't sound out!
