Physical Education

We follow the National Curriculum for Physical Education 2014

The National Curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives.

At Key Stage 1 the National Curriculum sets out a programme of study for games, gymnastic activities and dance. At Key Stage 2 six areas of activity are taught: games, gymnastics, dance, athletics, outdoor education and swimming.

Our objectives in PE are to develop physical skills, co-ordination and self-awareness; to give experience of competitive teamwork and to encourage lasting habits for healthy recreational enjoyment. Our PE curriculum is broad, covering each area of activity comprehensively, and is well supported by extra-curricular activities. We also use the nearby Port Regis School sports facilities to enhance our curriculum.

Every child gets the opportunity to take part in competitive sports through PE and house team competitions. Our best sportsmen and women, including the gifted and talented are selected to represent the school in various local tournaments and galas.

Our cricket team enjoyed competing at the Kwik Cricket competition. We were proud to win two of our matches.

Year 4 had a fantastic day at the Shaftesbury area tennis festival. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills and compete in the tournament in the afternoon.

Gymnastic sessions at Port Regis have been enormous fun for our Ducklings children and many new skills have been learnt.

A huge congratulations to our tag rugby team for coming third in Dorset. A superb result for our small school. We played with determination and team work and then got to meet Abi Chamberlain, the England sevens rugby captain. She chatted to us all, signed our shirts, let us hold her England rugby caps and try on her England rugby shirt. A proud day for all.

What a super start to the season. Fabulous team work and great play resulted in a 2-2 draw against St. Gregory's. The penalty shoot out at the end was nail biting but we managed to just pip them at the post. Roll on next week!
