Governors

Chair – Jasmin Melville (Trust-appointed Governor)

Roles: Finance and premises governor, Data governor

I am a SAST-appointed governor and fortunate enough that my child previously attended Motcombe.

I am an experienced professional with a background in commercial operations management within the charity and heritage sector and love what I do. I have been a member of the Gillingham Carnival Committee for 10 years and enjoy giving back to the local community.

My child hasn’t always been a pupil at Motcombe. She started in Year 3 and we have never looked back. Because of this, I wanted to give something back to the school for its great support and impact it has had on my daughter’s education.

I am a member of the Road Safety working group to help create a safer environment for both parents and children coming and going from school.

I really look forward to playing my part in supporting and developing Motcombe Primary.

Jill Jenkinson (Trust-appointed Governor)

Roles: Special needs and Pupil Premium children governor, Visions & Values Committee

I have been a Foundation and SEN Governor since 2010 so have seen the school move through many changes.  I worked in the NHS as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist helping children with physical disabilities and specific learning difficulties. I co-authored two books for SEN staff looking at the basic skills children require to access the National Curriculum.  I was also responsible for the Occupational Therapy section in the Learn to Move programme which is used in school.

I am now retired and enjoy spending time with my grandchildren, playing my bass clarinet, gardening, relaxing on our canal boat and volunteering overseas with Wheels for the World. I used to coordinate Motcombe Messy Church.

Frances Boarder (Foundation Governor)

Roles:  Curriculum Team, Visions & Values Committee

My early life was spent in the tropics, but after my training, I settled in London, teaching. This job, including a one-year exchange in Boston, Mass, USA and 33 years at Port Regis completed a 44-year teaching career. I have lived in Gillingham for over 35 years. I have two step-sons and daughters-in-law, a Romanian God-daughter and, between their families, 8 grandchildren.

Well-travelled, I love landscapes and photography. I have always enjoyed reading, the theatre, Ancient History, sewing, baking, gardening and wild flowers. Under and above all these is my Christian faith. The well-being of the hard-working staff and children is hugely important to me, so it is a privilege to be a governor and to be able to bring my literacy and gardening interests and experience to the service of Motcombe School.

Steve Yeo (Parent Governor)

Roles: Curriculum Team, PE governor

I feel privileged to be a school governor at Motcombe Primary School. My children are currently enjoying their time in Robins and Wrens. I have worked at Gillingham Secondary school for 25 years, and am head of the Physical Education department, which is a rewarding role within the school. As a governor I am hoping that my knowledge of the education system will assist me in my role of being responsible for maths, as well as furthering the excellent provision for physical education within the school.

Bill Leivers (Foundation Governor)

Roles: Curriculum Lead, Vision and Values

My wife and I moved to Motcombe from our previous home in Leicestershire in February 2021 and quickly felt at home in this wonderful village! I am delighted to be able to fully contribute to village life and to support Motcombe School as a Foundation Governor.

After a brief dalliance in the music business, I worked in education for all of my working life, as a secondary school teacher, college lecturer and manager. Before I retired in 2011, I worked as a Senior Coordinator for the Schools Development and Support Agency, based in Leicester. Surprisingly, at my advanced age, I am still working for SDSA as a consultant, on a (very!) part time basis!

I have experience in school governance at a Leicestershire Community College (11-19) and at the school in the village in which we lived in Leicestershire. I acted as Foundation Governor at Hathern C of E school for 6 years and for the last 4 years as Chair of Governors.

Sarah Clune (Foundation Governor)

Roles: Safeguarding governor, Wellbeing governor, Vision & Values Committee

I am a lawyer and advise charities (big and small) about safeguarding children and other vulnerable people and also specialise in charity governance.  I recently worked on a Charity Commission inquiry on a high-profile safeguarding case.  I use my professional experience in my role as a governor, particularly in relation to safeguarding.

I am passionate about children’s mental health and wellbeing as well as supporting the wellbeing of our wonderful staff – this has only increased in importance in light of the events of recent years and will no doubt be a key focus as we move forward.

I enjoy running and long dog walks and being out and about in nature.  I really value being a governor at the school; it is a real privilege to be a small part of this wonderful hard-working team. Both of my children have enjoyed their primary years at the school.  My son is in Owls class.

It is a privilege to be a SAST-appointed governor. I am a parent with two children at Motcombe Primary School and one child at Gillingham Secondary School.

I have a considerable amount of Management experience from my previous job roles and running our own business as well as a Management Degree. I am also involved with local carnivals and Dorset Marshals. I have been a Brownie leader for 22 years.

I am particularly interested in working with parents and pupils and my main link will be Special Educational Needs and Disability.

Laura Bartram (Parent governor)

Role: Whole-school wellbeing

Since moving to Motcombe with my family in 2018, I’ve loved taking an active part in this caring, vibrant village. Following 7 years working in Public Relations, I trained to be a chef and set up my own business in 2008 working for a wide range of clients as a private chef, recipe developer and cookery teacher. Until having children, much of my career was spent travelling or living abroad; now, my husband is in the Royal Navy and therefore has to move around for his work, so finding a solid base for us to call home has been vital.

Our oldest daughter started at the school in 2021 (our youngest will join in 2024) and I’ve been so impressed by the wonderful teaching staff and all that the school offers, be it nurturing the children, providing a wide range of extracurricular activities or the inspirational teaching. I’ve enjoyed working with the teachers, the PTA and other parents on fundraising events such as The Great Motcombe Santa Run and getting involved in the reading ambassador programme.

It’s an honour to be appointed as a parent governor and I look forward to being a part of such a fantastic team.
